New Mexico’s Energy Transition Act (ETA) has been called a mini version of the extreme socialist “Green New Deal” currently being touted by far left federal legislators.
The deal was signed in March 2019 by Gov. Lujan Grisham and sets a statewide renewable energy standard of 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2040. This means that jobs in traditional energy sectors will be slashed, and energy bills will skyrocket. This will cause untold harm to energy communities and raise costs on those who can least afford it.
Unsurprisingly, this bill was not created with transparency and equal representation for all voices. Emails obtained by Power The Future show how PNM joined radical environmental groups in building the ETA.
The way this bill was crafted is unacceptable, and its results will be devastating. Join us in taking a stand against it!
We the undersigned request the immediate repeal of the “Energy Transition Act” (ETA).
The ETA will increase electric bills statewide and destroy much needed jobs. Furthermore, it was drafted behind the scenes with heavy input from radical environmental special interest groups without input from energy workers or ratepayers. This was done in the name of climate change, but any benefits to climate would be extremely insignificant. Any new energy legislation should prioritize the needs of the people of New Mexico, not out-of-state special interests.
